Mexican Talavera ceramic tile exudes a natural magnetism that invites to be seen and touched. Made of clay and glazed by hand with natural color pigments, then baked in a kiln in which the colors become alive and vibrant, it acquires a somewhat rustic and timeless appeal.
Our Special Design Collection is a compilation of designs from different origins. The tiles are ideal in just about any ambience whether Spanish, Italian, Moorish, Mexican, Mediterranean or Southwest style architecture.
The Terra Cotta Oriental tile from our ceramic Mexican Talavera Collection II can be a perfect complement to decorate a bathroom shower wall, a kitchen backspash, a fireplace, a stairway, or any other project you have in mind.
- 1/4" thick.
- All sizes are nominal. In most instances the actual tile size of the tile is about 1/8" to 1/4" larger than the posted nominal size.
- Background Color: Mexican white glaze (off white).
- Glaze Colors: Mexican white, cobalt blue, gold yellow, verde hoja or rust.
- Color variation within individual tiles.
- Variations in thickness, flatness, size, and square ness.
- May display crazed effect.

Each of our Mexican talavera tile is unique and handcrafted. The hand made nature gives it a warm and rustic finish. The tiles are made from clay dug out of the ground and fired to a temperature at which the clay undergoes chemical changes and becomes permanently hard. Then the tile is glazed and decorated by hand, and fired once again to give it its final and lively finish. Its physical characteristics make Mexican tiles particularly attractive and distinctive.
Characteristics of Mexican Talavera Ceramic Tile:
- PLEASE NOTE: All sizes posted for our Mexican talavera tile on this website are nominal sizes (not actual size). Due to the handcrafted nature of our talavera tiles their ACTUAL SIZE is approximately 4 1/8 x 4 1/8 in.
Also, note that handcrafted Mexican Talavera tiles are not perfectly square. The height and length of a tile may not be the same. Measurements within a tile may vary by as much as 1/8 in.

Characterized as unique, irregular, functional, and expressive.

All our talavera tiles have a red body bisque.

Mexican tiles are concave (not perfectly flat).

All of our standard mexican tiles have a ¼ in. thickness. Larger and smaller tiles vary in thickness accordingly.

Colors and design may vary slightly.

Variations in contour and size are standard.

The tiles are slippery when wet if used as floors.

Crazing effect is inherent over time, and can be enhanced by using a contrasting colored grout.

Industry standard recommends to add on 5-10% additional to the tile needed to account for waste, special cuts, or other unforeseen problems. This is particularly important in complex installations.

Lot variation in size and color may be present from shipment to shipment. There is no guarantee that tiles ordered as add-ons will match those from the original orders. This is an inherent characteristic in all ceramic tiles, and particularly in all handcrafted tiles.

Talavera tiles are NOT frost proof.

Bathroom walls, showers, back splashes, fireplaces, counters, and floors.

Pool chemicals may negatively impact glazes. Not slip resistant.

Light-use flooring: as accents flooring, or as a border to define an area.

Outdoor use is subject to climate. Talavera tiles are NOT frost proof.
